  15. This is the fourth update of the canine rescue organizations list.  Breed 
  16. specific organizations are listed first and all-breed organizations
  17. are at the end.  All the lines that are preceeded with a "||" are the
  18. ones containing either new information or important corrections with
  19. respect to versions before 2.1.
  20.  
  21. THANKS TO THOSE WHO DESERVE IT:
  22. Susan Mudgett and Eric Johansson have been keeping a list of 
  23. New England Rescue Organizations for quite some time.  They 
  24. graciously sent a hard copy of their list so that we could include 
  25. all of those addresses and phone numbers in this listing.  If you wish 
  26. to contact them directly concerning the New England area specifically,
  27. they have listed their phone number in their own CRL (canine rescue list):
  28. 508-667-0137.  Many thanks to Susan and Eric.

  30. Secondly, Marget Johnson sent us so much stuff she had to include
  31. extra postage on the envelope.  Most of the information Marget
  32. provided us has been submitted to various dog related journals so
  33. this information may be available in your local library as well.

  36. Thirdly, Colleen Englemann sent a listing of rescue organizations
  37. from the "Bay Area".  This means the San Francisco Bay area, so 
  38. if you live near there these listings are for you.  The text "baylist" 
  39. is added by these because many of them are just phone numbers without 
  40. the name of the person.   This doesn't mean you shouldn't call, we 
  41. just don't know what the name of the person you will talk to is.  
  42. If you do call and get a name, let me know so I can include it here.

  44. Cindy Tittle Moore (those of you who read r.p.d. regularly
  45. know her well) has been of great help both at the beginning and the
  46. end of this project.  Her expertise in FAQ's for rec.pets.dogs is
  47. greatly appreciated.

  50. him and thanks to Kathryn Whitworth for typesetting these files in WP5.1

  53. This list is for the dogs, literally :-)  All of the poor animals that 
  54. have been abandoned for whatever reasons.  So many of you are caring 
  55. people and take these dogs in and care for them until they can find kind
  56. caring homes where they really belong.  I believe there is a home for 
  57. all dogs and I hope a few dogs can find those homes through our meager 
  58. efforts.

  61. I have no experience with any of these groups.  I have no experience with
  62. rescuing a dog. We simply wanted to make this list available to you.  So, 
  63. we must say that we are not specifically endorsing any of these people/groups
  64. but we are endorsing the idea of rescuing a dog for a pet.

  67. organizations available. It is a bit out of date, however. I have not

  79. information about rescue I am told it is all in there.

  84. If you notice I have left out someone in your favorite breed then
  85. please tell me.  If I have included someone that no longer serves in
  86. this capacity tell me so I can delete them from the list.  Otherwise
  87. keep this packed away in your files somewhere and pull it out when
  88. someone asks you about getting a new dog.  Rescues can be such good
  89. pets for so many people so don't automatically assume everyone needs
  90. a puppy.  (You may find the best puppy here as well!)
